John Minto
John Minto is a political activist who is well known for his participation in left wing groups, but significantly Halt All Racist Tours (HART).
Minto was involved in organising the group Halt All Racist Tours along with Tom Newnham and Trevor Richards. The organisation protested against rugby tours in relation to apartheid South Africa. He was appointed as the National Chairman of HART in 1980. During the 1981 Springbok tour of New Zealand he was at the forefront of the protests. He got into confrontations with the police, and even on one occasion was assaulted by a rugby supporter the night after the disruption at Rugby Park in Hamilton.
